I was excited and lucky enough to attend the Habitat SS17 press show this week and unsurprisingly it did not disappoint.
Habitat is never one to conform to mainstream trends and influences, and this year Habitat have created a number of diverse ranges in their new collection. You can expect a mixture of industrial, urban, retro and environmentally friendly interiors which showcases their typical alternate and artistic style.
First up was the ‘Urban Jungle’ range of outdoor furniture that focused on materials such as teak wood, acrylic chairs, concrete tables, aluminium benches, ceramic planters and mosaics.
Bright and bold colours featured throughout that really played as accents against the muted furniture pieces. The range also encompassed various patterns such as monochrome, geometric and tropical. This is a range where there is something for everyone and would make any outdoor area come alive!
HAND OF THE MAKER
Now onto the ‘Hand of the Maker’ range which featured handmade ceramic vases, plates, and decorative pieces. Polly Dickens, Habitat’s Creative Director explained that the SS17 ceramics were influenced by David Hockney and ipad artistry which has resulted in majorly cool and custom style pieces.
Next up was the ’70’s Retro’ range which was heavily influenced by the nostalgic 70’s and album covers such as the Yellow Submarine. Red, orange, pink and blues matched with the classic curved lines which dominated the 70’s featured across all the collections.
The final range was ‘Linear Industrial’ and for or me the star of the show were these bookcases. The angled shelves make this unit unique yet still practical. Its a simple design but in the any room, this unit would make a big impact.
Habitat pride themselves on being ahead of the trends and influencing the market for future seasons, so watch this space, 70’s retro could be making a full revival!
I was also joined by the lovely Melanie Lissack from Melanie Lissack Interiors at the press show where we enjoyed a few of these gorgeous cocktails and ate the most amazing beetroot houmous canapés. I now need beetroot houmous in my life!!
I’d love to find out what your favourite pieces are from the Habitat collection and your thoughts on the trends coming through for Homeware in Spring Summer 2017 🙂
